Agreement to Terms

By accessing or using SplitDumb ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you disagree with any part of these terms, you may not use the Service.

Description of Service

SplitDumb is a free, open-source expense-splitting tool that allows users to:

  • Create trips to track shared expenses
  • Add participants and record expenses
  • Calculate balances and suggested payments
  • Share trip access with others via URL and password

Acceptable Use

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any illegal or unauthorized purpose
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or its related systems
  • Upload or transmit viruses, malware, or other malicious code
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service or servers/networks connected to it
  • Use automated scripts to collect information from or interact with the Service
  • Impersonate others or provide false information
  • Use the Service to harass, abuse, or harm others

User Responsibilities

Trip Access

You are responsible for:

  • Keeping your trip URL and password secure
  • All activity that occurs under your trip access
  • Notifying us if you suspect unauthorized access to your trip

Content and Data

You are responsible for all data you enter into the Service, including:

  • Ensuring the accuracy of expense and payment information
  • Not entering sensitive personal information beyond what's necessary
  • Obtaining consent from participants before adding their information
  • Backing up important data before deleting trips

Important: SplitDumb is a calculation tool only. It does not process actual payments. You are solely responsible for settling debts with other participants through your own means.

Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose
  • Warranties that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure
  • Warranties regarding the accuracy or reliability of any information obtained through the Service

Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL SPLITDUMB, ITS CREATORS, OR CONTRIBUTORS BE LIABLE FOR:

  • Any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
  • Any loss of profits, data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses
  • Any damages resulting from unauthorized access to or use of the Service
  • Any damages resulting from errors, mistakes, or inaccuracies in the Service
  • Any financial disputes between users arising from use of the Service

SplitDumb is a free tool provided in good faith. Use it at your own risk and verify calculations independently for important transactions.

Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless SplitDumb and its creators from any claims, damages, costs, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from:

  • Your use of the Service
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of any rights of a third party
  • Any disputes between you and other trip participants

Service Availability

We strive to maintain the Service but reserve the right to:

  • Modify or discontinue the Service at any time without notice
  • Refuse service to anyone for any reason
  • Remove content or data that violates these Terms
  • Implement usage limits or restrictions

We are not liable for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the Service.

Intellectual Property

SplitDumb is open-source software. The source code is available on GitHub under its respective license. Your use of the Service does not grant you ownership of any intellectual property rights in the Service.

Privacy

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms.

Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in the United States.

Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
